Review of Getaway (2013) by Chris D — 04 Jan 2014
This movie is basically 'Saw' but in a car and without all the torture porn. Ethan Hawke is a former race car driver who is told to steal a car to save his captured wife. He is told to do a number of things while racing around town and escaping the police.
It doesn't take long to get going and it is pretty much a 90 minute car chase. Things change up a bit with Selena Gomez entering the picture, but she doesn't help things and becomes a bit of a nuisance.
I felt the ending was a little weird that I had to watch it again to see how the bad guy was subdued and his wife rescued. Mostly because it was edited in a weird way that I lost a sense of where everyone was in the world.
That's one thing that bugged me, the editing sometimes made you confused as to where people were. I'll give them credit for having an explained excuse for cameras to be everywhere. Hard to believe the car was still in one piece and didn't need any gas before things were done.
But ignoring those minor things, I liked this. It isn't high form entertainment, but it was an enjoyable way to waste 90 minutes.
