Review of Get the Gringo (2012) by Miguel Y — 01 Jun 2012
I'll say this upfront I like mel gibson as a actor and a film maker. He's really back in form here in what is really a B movie with A movie production values. Mel here is really down to earth and is getting back to what alot of people ( myself included) is his bread and butter.
I see alot of his Martin Riggs character from the lethal weapon films. His mannerism's and the way he moves around the prison here I feel are the main points here. The prison (if you can call it that) is kind of unbeliavable but a very similiar prison actually existed.
Drug catels thru out the Tijana part of mexico run this place like it's a huge shopping mall. They completly disregarded the mexican government until the prison was raided in 2002 and subsequently shut down.
Production design here is very accurate to what it was like there. All in all I think Mel is coming back to the fold. He's got that twinkle in his eye once again.
