Review of Get Smart (2008) by Max H — 16 Jul 2018
Whatever was fresh and subversive about the original mid-60sTV series, which aptly combined the slapstick lunacy of Inspector Clouseau with the doomsday espionage of Sean Connery's 007, doesn't quite survive the jump to this side of the new millennium.
Carell does an alright job filling Don Adams' shoephone-though his performance never really rises above imitation, while the rest of the cast feels more free to expand their classic archetypal roles-but in a world that has already been saved time and again by Flint, by Powers, by Eggst, etc.
, Smart just isn't clever enough to keep up with his imitators.
