Review of Get Shorty (1995) by Weston R — 05 Nov 2007
There are films that are said to 'crackle and pop' with wit and hipness, the punchlines are snappy and funny, the dialogue is intelligent and satirical. some films have been said to do this, there aren't many and many of those films (to me at least) may start out that way but fail to keep that momentum for an entire film.
this film is an exception. it is a wonderfully written, character rich film that keeps its charm and charisma well past the 30 minute mark. john travolta is great in 'pulp fiction' but to me, Chili Palmers is his second greatest acting job next to 'saturday night fever'.
gene hackman plays a hack producer of monster films who has just laid his hands on a great script. this is a very rare film in which every single character/actor is perfectly cast. the music is great, the camera keeps moving, and there is rene russo in it.
how bad could it be?
