Review of Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2005) by Stuart M — 24 Oct 2008

A film in the mode of Saturday Night Fever or 8 Mile; a young man has a tough upbringing and eventually, by way of music, lifts himself out of it. It sounds perhaps little hackneyed, but the film carried it off well.

50 Cent was good as the main character (perhaps he was playing himself). There is a lot of violence, more than in the other two films mentioned, but it seems to have its place. I liked it, but it's not for everyone.

And the same can be said of the music. I liked it and thought it was appropriate - in fact it might be said to make the music more meaningful.
