Review of Get Over It (2001) by Julia P — 07 Jul 2011
Rewatched while busy.*.
How did this ever become a movie? I love it. It's bizarre and funny and corny in a Y2K era way, which defines the beginning of my adolescence. The cast is amazing - Mila Kunis, Ed Begley Jr, Martin Short (and his assistant), Zoe Saldana, Ben Foster, Kirsten Dunst. I mean, Sisqo is in it, and he sings. Plus it's part musical and part Shakespeare. Part terrible truly awful musical, and part i'm not even sure if they've read all of Midsummer's Night Dream or just read a wiki summary.
But of course my favorite by far is the opening song and dance number.
It's not at all realistic and 9/10 I would have thought it didn't work but it works here. I won't claim that it's a great movie, but it's great to me.
Note - I actually own it and have watched the audio commentary before. That always gives me a soft spot for films, if I can tell how much the people who made it care about it. For instance, knowing how they filmed the dance floor scene.
