Review of Get Over It (2001) by Charles E — 10 Aug 2011
This movie is much better than it ought to be, so it's not surprising that the "Top Critics" rate this movie higher than their peers do. Its strength doesn't lie in the actors but in the sustained attempt at poignant comedy and dramatic novelty. It doesn't meet the production values of an Emma-based Clueless, but this adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream doesn't lack for dramatic heart, and the capture of high school heartbreak suffers only from being slightly too grown-up.
More than one friend has sneered at this film only later to say, "Hey, this is pretty good.".
Seven stars for being neither boring nor cheesy. Sophomoric? Sure.
