Review of Get Out (2017) by James W — 05 Mar 2018
I just watched this before the Oscars, and while I liked it okay and found it entertaining, it was very predictable, certainly didn't live up to the hype and wasn't worthy of a"Best Picture" nomination in the slightest. It bascially ends up being a weird(er) version of The Stepford Wives meets Being John Malkovich with more violence and racism commentary.
Again, I give props for a mostly original screenplay and keeping me mildy entertained - which is great - but that's where its virtues end. Whoever thought this deserved a Best Pic nod must have been hypnotized by Jordan Peele and then had their brain removed in a basement operating room.
