GET OUT.

In my quest of reviewing Oscar-nominated movies, I feel specially happy to be writing about this one. This is the most unexpected, a film that I saw almost a year ago and, although I considered it incredible then, I got the opportunity to watch it again. And the act of rewatching, specially in a film like this, is not innocuous as the film's brilliance is microscopically inserted into its texture. Get Out represents a landmark of cinema, a new spin in the horror genre that interweaves the release of tension resulting from centuries of oppression and a full-realized dystopia that serves as a metaphor for the current world. It's a film that elevates the significance of every of its symbols with the finesse and tension of a Hitchcock film. It's truly an inspiring movie whose power to inspire and change minds is amazingly greater than Black Panther. The latter being so overt about its theme it grinds on the pantomimic, and the former being a subtle exercise on ideology, working outwards from a theme and not otherwise. It's a highly enjoyable film because adding to this theme and original concept, there's a fine script and vibrant performances. However, I do think that in trying to make a pantomime of similar movies, it gets too lost and direction forgets to be exciting. Therefore, I can't praise its consistency but I can give the benefit of the doubt to the third viewing. Also, it's one of the most impressive directorial debuts ever seen, a feat of movie-making. It's easily the smartest horror movie of the year and it's even more easily one of the most refreshing films of the decade.
