Review of Get Out (2017) by Gavin F — 06 May 2018
Despite a good premise, I found this a bit lame. It's not really a horror film, as it's not scary at all (apart from some pointless jump scares) - perhaps it's more a thriller? The medical basis seemed rather flimsy, but was not discussed too much and so did not impact on my suspension of disbelief sufficiently to derail the plot.
There are two main problems with it for me. First, everyone was acting so blatantly suspicious. Perhaps this was meant to show how secure and confident they were, but it just appeared stupid. Second, I find it very implausible that someone can be hypnotised against their will, as shown here, so a lot of the plot was a non-starter for me.
The saving grace, however, was Rod, who was funny and yet also the most realistic character. So, for me, Get Out is hugely overrated.
