Review of Get Out (2017) by Jess_Hill — 09 May 2017
This is a brilliantly inventive thriller that expertly exploits horror tropes, delivering a masterful commentary on the fear of minorities in America writ into an original story that is utterly compelling.
The very best horror films exploit the anxieties of an era, becoming emblematic of their time, and Peele's sharp and oftentimes hilarious take on the complexities of black and white experiences against the backdrop of a classic cabin-in-the-woods setup is sure to become an instant classic.
The pacing is careful, the soundtrack is excellent, and whilst there is some minimal gore, this is not a blood soaked slash fest, and the majority of the film is played as a tense and captivating thriller.
