Review of Get Out (2017) by Tick — 26 Feb 2017
My review will contain not really spoilers, but a take on the film that COULD shed some light on what happens in the movie. 1st. If you think This movie is about race baiting, racesploitation, then you fell victim to the true meaning behind the film. Basically **** happens in this movie, and it's **** up, as it is in EVERY Horror/Thriller. Texas Chainsaw, Hostel, etc. **** up **** happens in those movies, and some **** up **** happens in this movie. The MAIN point of this movie is this: At the end, when he calls 911... You know it won't help him, and when the emergency lights show up... Unlike EVERY movie where this means the protagonist(s) is/are safe... it doesn't mean the protagonist in this movie is safe, it means he is screwed... Think about that... As the viewer, you think "Ohh **** the cops showed up! He's ****" That's not the way people think in most movies, we think "YAY! The protagonist is safe!"... Not in this, and that's our OWN rationale reaching for that conclusion. Also, The underlining motivations behind the evil characters is NOT racist. We assume it is, and that's on us. SPOILER!
When the daughter says "grandma" and "Get him Grandpa" That shows they CHOSE the bodies they liked the most, and race didn't play a part. We assumed they "enslaved" the nanny, and the grounds keeper, but they are not. The whole point of this movie was to provide cheap thrills, as any movie in this class does, AND to demonstrate how people see race as motivations behind things. WE see it, my friends who are Black/Asian/First Nations/White saw racism when there wasn't any, and then WE saw the Whole Black-lives matter movement summed up at the end where the cops don't necessarily mean he's safe...
**** Brilliant.
