Saw this Oscar hopeful with my wife in the comfort of our home. Lots of buzz around this horror/racism movie. Director/comedian Jordan Peele has said that he wanted to make a film for black audiences. It's an interesting film, though I wouldn't call it a traditional horror film.

It's more of a "Twilight Zone" type of story. Peele wisely pulls the audience into the racism aspect slowly. Daniel Kaluuya, as the protagonist, Chris, is really solid in this movie. He is very believable and has a great screen presence.

The other roles where more bland. However, one actor lit up the screen. Comedian Lil Rel Howery, as Chris's buddy TSA officer Rod Williams, provided outstanding comedic scenes while harpooning Hollywood horror tropes, especially ones related to black actors.

The movie zipped along but was mostly predictable. The climax was fairly abrupt and rather derivative. It was disappointing for me in the end. I've been told that the theater experience was better.

A good effort, though the Oscar buzz perplexes me. Jordan Peele looks to have a fine directing/writing career ahead. I look forwarded to more challenging films from him. As for my wife, it was not her movie genre and she fell asleep halfway through.
