Review of Get Out (2017) by Issac C — 01 Jun 2017
Before I write anything on this movie. I'd like to point out that everybody talks about this movie and how well it deals with racism towards blacks, what about racism towards whites? Yes it is actually possible to be racist to a white person everyone, and this movie can be quite a lot.
Anyway, moving on: Get Out is a film about a guy going to meet his girlfriends parents for the first time, which he is unsure about doing as they don't know he is black. He is hesitant at first but finally agrees to it and they head to her parents farm-house.
At first everything seems fine, but then our main character Chris (Played by Daniel Kaluuya), starts to notice things. After an awkward dinner the night before with his girlfriend Rose's (Played by Allison Williams) brother talking about how black people are so much stronger and could take anyone on in a fight, they decide to leave the next day.
This doesn't happen as it turns out they have a dinner party planned. Things start to get really weird, such as Rose's mom putting Chris in hypnosis, shady shit going on, and a weird encounter with another person, things start to go awry very fast.
I will admit with what I said about the racism thing, their are probably people out there who are like this. Get Out can be a fairly freaky, jump-scare cliche at times, but at other times it fails to impress.
While having great acting, this movies plot didn't rope me in like the trailer did, and slowly just went downhill in my opinion. Albeit an awesome and satisfying ending, the movies lackluster storytelling is what lost it for me.
I will admit, this movie does have a very interesting and well-crafted plot twist, so I enjoyed that, and a lot of humor also made this movie much more tolerable for me personally. To me, a mediocre movie with talented actors but lackluster plot.
Not bad just not great, and for me it doesn't have re-watch-ability.
