Review of Get Out (2017) by Joseph C — 29 Mar 2017
Great suspenseful movie and I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it. But pretty much 15 minutes in I had it all figured out. Good original story but not many unexpected twists. Most of the movie is fairly telegraphed.
While it had heavy racial overtones at first, I am glad it ended up being something a little different although I would've appreciated if it would've been explored a little more. There were a few unexplained plot points however.
For example I want to know who left the box of pictures conveniently in the closet with the open closet door beckoning Chris to come look. And how did his friend the TSA agent find them? That all seemed a little convenient.
I definitely do not understand why this is nominated for an Oscar. Not Best Picture caliber by any means but a good flick. Good movie but a bit overrated I think.
