I was really excited to see this film after hearing so much about it post award-season. It started out pretty good but then progressively became what I found to be a very bad rip-off of 2005's The Skeleton Key.
While I found there to be some important highlights of racial prejudice and complexities of interracial relationships, as well as some redeeming comic relief from LilRel Howery, I found myself leaving the theater feeling bummed out that instead of seeing an exciting thriller, I ended up seeing hokey horror flick.
2 stars for the movie, 1 star for the excuse to eat buttered popcorn.
