Review of Get On Up (2014) by Jon C — 02 Aug 2014
A spectacular performance by Chadwick Boseman.
This is a great homage to the Godfather of Soul.
It's running time is overly-long but the insanely good acting makes up for James Brown's extraordinary backstory.
The film jumps from each key moment from his past to his present and most recent.
Dare not to be captivated by his soul mantras and rythmatic tunes.
True it does follow some too-familiar tropes many biopics do but the performances are ultimately lively.
It is true: the funk don't quit, no one owns you, and you can get up on your own.
