Review of Get On Up (2014) by Keith J — 04 Aug 2014
Cadwick Boseman ends the suspense and doubt at the outset and proves not only does he move like Brown but he can bring forward his swagger and electricity with his on stage performance. With a deep sigh with that accomplishment, we are left with enjoying his tremendous performance.
The story telling was a bit dis-jointed in the beginning and a fair bit of breaking the fourth wall leaves the viewers to adjust this no linear style at the outset. However, the movie comes on strong with the Boseman's performance as he gives justice to the man and is not a caricature of the man which happens in many biopics.
I was exposed to James Brown through my father who admired his abilities greatly and as such this appreciation was subsequently passed along to me. With cautious skepticism going in, I was greatly surprised with the performance.
Well done!!!
