Review of Get On Up (2014) by Hannah K — 07 Aug 2014
I was prepared to see some really great dancing & footwork from the lead actor of this film portraying The James Brown.. However, I was not prepared to feel as if James Brown was actually in this film.
.. The ensemble cast was well represented in every aspect. The director who was also director of The Help, used a deft hand in displaying the grit & the genius of JB & his life, keeping a tight balance of the scandals, the activism & the entrepreneurial spirit embodied in a man that had only a 7th grade education.
Music director, Mick Jagger hit it dead on with selections of classic as well as the highly praised 'Funk' style that was evolved later on in JB's career after the 50s & 60s... Really well acted & great soundtrack!!
