Review of Get On Up (2014) by Elsa M — 09 Aug 2014
It is incredible how well James Brown's movements, mannerisms and his style were well portrayed. His music and singing made everyone in the theatre react with fire for funk! The child who portrayed him at that age was outstanding.
And like the realities presented in the movies i.e The Help, Twelve Years of Slavery. . . where insane bigotry towards Black African Americans and the abuse of their boys get portrayed - James demonstrates how the inner spirit in him triggers the gifts inside of him which allows him to overcome the mean, stupid adults throughout his life.
The beauty of this movie is how The Stones come out as "kids" giving him respect behind the curtains as James energy and guts to be himself infuses them which obviously Mick Jagger gives tribute to him! If nothing else-one must go see this because it's a tribute to a legendary icon whose songs, music and messages in being "you at your best" continue to infuse everyone today!
