Review of Get On Up (2014) by Kym C — 31 Jan 2015
I have no idea how anyone could not like this movie.
Of course, I spent the entirety of every dance I ever went to growing up trying to dance like James Brown. So, maybe that makes a difference.
I rented this on "On Demand" and watched it twice. The guy who plays James Brown talks like him and manages to dance like him (an amazing feat). It really reminded me of how great he was and filled in a ton of stuff I didn't know since most of his career took place when I was still a little kid.
I think it's being ignored by "the Oscars" which lowers my respect for awards shows even lower, which I didn't really think was possible.
Still, it mesmerized me. If your grew up in the sixties you should definitely check it out.
