Review of Get on the Bus (1996) by Gerald W — 15 Sep 2007
While this movie attempts to analyze racial prejudices in a vast melting pot of opinions that's similar to "Do the Right Thing," it lacks that film's ambiguity and becomes guilty of preaching, a similar flaw that Crash possessed.
Even though each character has their own outlooks on race relations, we know which ones are "right." Do the Right Thing didn't frown upon or judge people for thinking a certain way; instead, it presented the problems and said "Here they are, America.
What are you going to do about it?" Spike Lee would probably say that I just don't get it because I'm not black, and that's exactly the problem. Not only does this film explore the pointlessness of racism, but it also falls prey to it.
