Review of Get Low (2010) by Jc E — 25 Mar 2011
I'll just come right out and say it: Robert Duvall (Crazy Heart) at least deserved an Oscar nomination for his role in this film. It's too bad that this film wasn't the trendy kind the Academy drools over.
There's no denying Duvall's acting talent, nor that of the always amiable Bill Murray (Get Smart) or Sissy Spacek (Four Christmases); but Lucas Black (Legion) remains one of the most underrated young actors of our day.
The four of them work very well together under the direction of the relatively unseasoned Aaron Schneider, who gives the film a very intimate, heartfelt tone. There are times when the story feels a little unsteady, but the actors shine and the beautiful music by composer Jan A.
P. Kaczmarek (Evening) more than compensates for any flaws the film may have.
