Review of Get Low (2010) by James-Masaki R — 17 Sep 2011
Based on a true story and set in the 1920's, an aging hermit asks a funeral home to arrange a funeral... for himself before he dies. He wants everyone to come, and tell a story about him, whether true or not, and have a huge celebration. But what dark secret does he keep that made him run from society in the first place?
Duvall is fantastic like always, and Bill Murray is just Bill Murray. You can't get better than that. Even with a first time director, the acting and the storytelling are both truly compelling, and as funny as the movie is at times, it really goes to a dark side as well. But all for the better for the characters futures. But what an idea, to have a funeral party for yourself.
