Review of Get Him to the Greek (2010) by Al M — 07 Jul 2011
A pseduo-sequel to Jason Segel's Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek is a raunchy and hilarious satire of the music industry that far outweighs Sarah Marshall in terms of laughs and entertainment--I wasn't really a fan of Sarah Marshall except for puppet Dracula.
The film follows Jonah Hill as a fat, complacent young record company employee who has an attractive girlfriend but a boring relationship and who idolizes rock singer Aldous Snow. His boss, played brilliantly by Sean (Puff Daddy or whatever) Combs, sends him to London to pick up Aldous and bring him to reunion performance in Los Angeles.
But Snow has become a drug addict and hardcore partier, which consistently delays their trip to California. The film unfolds hilariously as it deconstructs stardom while simultaneously exploring the relationship traumas and dilemmas that define our lives.
By no means profound, Get Him To the Greek does manage to blend genuinly touching moments together with its raunchiness and its doesn't lose its vibe before the end like so many similar Apatow films.
