Review of Get Him to the Greek (2010) by Jenny S — 11 Aug 2011
I expected more out of this. The polar opposites of Jonah Hill's sedated acting and Russell Brand's speedy blabber should work well in a comedy like this, but it mostly gets annoying. I usually enjoy both of them in their own element, but here they just can't seem to find a good balance in their collaborative chemistry.
The plot is just an excuse to get things, literally, from point A to point B. Nothing bad about that, it usually gives you fresh scenarios and keeps the pace up, and it works well enough here as well. The silly plot does give you some good reasons to laugh, but neither the main or the supporting characters are likeable in any way and very hard to sympathise with when needed, which brings some scenes down quite a lot.
Bottom line: A mildly entertaining film that makes you cringe too many times to let you connect with any the characters and really enjoy it.
