The expository satire about the record industry is surprisingly sharp (and the dizzying parade of celebrity cameos is fun), but after about 45 minutes, the film unfortunately sinks into a pit of crass vomit/rectum/drug jokes. I was surprised at how good Russell Brand's singing voice is, though -- in fact, I would rather hear him sing than do stand-up comedy.

P. Diddy has all the best moments as the aggressive, conniving label manager, and I almost wish the central story had been a battle of wits between him and Brand instead. As for Jonah Hill, well, I suppose it's encouraging that such an unattractive actor can become a marketable star.
