Review of Get Him to the Greek (2010) by Joshua P — 13 Nov 2011
Or anyone unaware or who haven't seen, this is more or less a spin-off of 2008's 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' featuring the rock star Aldous Snow. I won't get too much into it, but this movie works so well, being directed by "Sarah Marshall"s director, taking Aldous back into the drug-addicted rock and roll world he once lived in before becoming clean as previously seen in 'Sarah Marshall' and we follow Jonah Hill's character on a journey to get Aldous Snow from London to L.
A for a reunion 'Infant Sorrow' concert. Though I can say this wasn't quite as hilarious as The Other Guys, it was still laugh out loud funny in almost every scene but the real reason I place this ahead of Other Guys was because it was a little more enjoyable to watch.
It's so much fun to see Jonah Hill's depressed, pathetic character team up with Russel Brand's upbeat, rock star, crazy attitude and to see them go from London to L.A. and all the stops, trips, drug deals, and furry walls in between.
I won't lie, it does have the same dialogue and feel to a typical "Appatow movie" but the idiocy isn't as obvious and the nonsense isn't as apparent as the previews would suggest.
The director of this installment seems to be a little more clever in developing the jokes in between an entertaining, moving story as opposed to a stationary plot filled with constant dick and poop jokes (Funny People, etc).
It is for this reason that the movie felt original in most aspects, aside from it basically being a spin-off. The story was new, the jokes were new, it featured a catchy rock and roll soundtrack with songs from the fictional band 'Infant Sorrow,' who have more talent than most real bands these days, and had characters that will always make you laugh out loud throughout (surprisingly P.
Diddy's character... basically playing himself... was one of the funniest characters in the movie, 96% of the reason being his dialogue, 4% being because he's P. Diddy). It was nice to see a little touch of something original, not to mention one of the funniest movies of the year.
