Review of Get Him to the Greek (2010) by Russell G — 04 Mar 2012
The movie gets off to a good start but turns serious and even a bit dark, which I did not expect. It bites of a little more than it can chew and tries to cover too much ground. I wish it had not gotten as heavy as it did and took the approach of a straight up comedy.
I appreciated the references back to Forgetting Sarah Marshall but I wish it had the good balance of comedy and drama that Sarah Marshall had. The dramatic plot devices are still a solid foundation and would have been more enjoyable had they been executed better with a lighter tone.
There are some good laughs and Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, & P Diddy make for a great cast. I actually liked the fake songs Russell Brand performed along the way; he was pretty convincing as a troubled egocentric rock star.
It is just too bad their adventure did not stay a little more lighthearted.
