Review of Get Him to the Greek (2010) by Nikhil P — 22 Apr 2014
This may be the funniest movie I've ever seen. In terms of pure laughs-per-minute, it wins; in terms of what movies gave me the biggest laughs, it still wins. There were moments in this movie when I went into full Joker mode in my laughter and actually started to creep out the friends I was watching it with.
It takes a few detours into melodrama near the middle that slow things down a bit, which do add heart to the characters though I wish these stops hadn't brought the laughs to a stand-still. Even so, as I said, they do add a surprising sense of heart to the characters and they are fairly brief with the laughs quickly returning.
You could criticize it for its for its celebrity story being unrelatable, but that just seems selfish. Besides, the rock star lifestyle is so ripe for comedy I'm surprised it's taken this long to do it so right.
The situations are absurd, but that's what makes them work; and the characters are still relatable in their motives and emotions even if their situations aren't. It's a wonderful movie hitting the highest point of the bromance genre, I loved it.
