Review of Gerry (2002) by Ben B — 10 Aug 2009
Gerry is a short film about two men who get lost in the desert and find it difficult to maintain each other's company. Unfortunately, they forgot to cut out an hour and 10 minutes of footage. So what we ended up with is a 1 hour 43 minute movie about landscapes, walking, and.
.. absolutely nothing. If the point was to give the audience a feel for what it's like to walk miles upon miles and start to lose your mind, not knowing when you can stop, then he (unfortunately) succeeded.
Single shots can last up to 7 minutes. 7 minutes of two people walking; of clouds rolling over distant mountains; of a lone man sitting on a rock, the camera circling him. Utterly boring, and terribly annoying, this film has nothing and everything thrown into it.
Never worth watching again.
