Review of Gerry (2002) by Ollie W — 03 Jul 2011
Gentle, meandering and beautifully shot, Gus Van Sant's spiritual and rural journey chartering the survival of the relationship between two young men is fascinating and indulgent in equal measure. Scripted by Casey Affleck, who is a better actor than he is a writer, this too often slips into pretentious philosophising that strips the premise of authenticity and subtlety, despite the best efforts of Van Sant - whose direction is as sublime and flawless as ever.
