Review of George of the Jungle (1997) by Brian K — 07 Feb 2012
A movie that is sort of funny some of the time and then occasionally hilarious. Brendan Fraser breathes loopy new life into the swinging '60s TV cartoon icon. Possesses both an edge and a sense of self-mocking that's unusual for any feature, live or animated. This bit of fluff overflows with so much honest charm it barely matters that it's one in a seemingly endless succession of Tarzan retreads. The plot is predictable, and the humor is uncreative and often crude. The heroine, however, is endearing in her quirkiness. So silly, so garishly over-the-top, and so bracingly eager to please, that it's hard not to fall under its gleefully gooney spell. Sporadically playful, it ends up wearing as thin as any film geared to a preteen sense of humor is bound to do. An amiable, highly ingratiating piece of lowbrow entertainment.
VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars).
