Review of Geography Club (2013) by Justin G — 16 Oct 2015
This movie is a string of thin cliches, punctuated by alarming bursts of unaddressed and unneeded hate directed at just about any oppressed group you could think of. Gay people are only valued if they are masculine, women are objects, people with mental disabilities are punchlines, and the whole "feel good message" is confused and outdated.
It's as if nobody in the production of this movie had ever talked to an actual gay person, but rather watched an episode of "60 Minutes" from 1968 on bullying of gay kids and decided to write a movie based solely on that.
Calling this movie "well-intentioned" is to give well-intentioned a bad name, and anybody involved in the making of this movie should feel bad, and reflect on what they've done.
