Review of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) by Stephanie P — 27 Jan 2008
If you are ever feeling down, put this movie on... it will cheer you up in 5 minutes. Brilliant, cartoonish, sassy, campy, funny romp. The costumes alone are worth watching this film. Marilyn was at the height of her beauty - she is so mesmerising - I love her so much.
See Jane Russell doing a Marilyn impersonation at the end and you might understand why Marilyn was so unique - no one comes near her! 'Bye, Bye Baby', 'When Love Goes Wrong', 'Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend' and the opening number, 'Two Little Girls From Little Rock' are some of the great songs along with the choreography.
It's such a delight. Watch out for Jane Russell doing 'Aint There Anyone Here For Love?' what a hoot!! Apparantely she was paid a much higher salary than Marilyn and got a better dressing room as Marilyn wasn't considered as big a star as her at the time by the studio.
What an injustice!
