Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Brad D — 28 Nov 2009
I have seen this twice this week. The first time I went I took my 11 year old son. He liked it more than I did, but I found myself thinking about it and laughing several times over the next few days. My 16 year old wanted to see it, so, I took him tonight. We laughed our butts off. I think the first time I saw it I was in a little bit of shock at the wierdness of it all. The second time through I knew what to expect and I was able to notice the many details from the twisted minds of the Hesses.
Jemaine Clement is hilarious! Count how many times he uses the bluetooth headset that seemingly surgically attached to his ear. Sam Rockwell deserves an Oscar nod for his dual role as Bronco and Brutus. Oh, and stay through the closing credits for one of the goofiest scenes you will see this year.
I predict that this will become a cult classic and I see it being discussed in university film classes in the future. Hopefully, Hess will continue to get funding for his wierd, whacky creations. It's great to see someone get money from Hollywood and make something completely anti-Hollywood. Go Hess!
