Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Steve C — 19 Apr 2010
This movie was an extreme disappointment.
Let's start with the positives, as few as they were:
1. Jemaine Clement was very funny as the self-absorbed author, he ran with this role.
2. Sam Rockwell was over-the-top as the hero of the stories, regardless of which version (the original, the copy, or the film).
The negatives:
1. An extreme waste of Jennifer Coolidge, a very funny actress wasted in a bizarre type of role. Just not a funny role for her.
2. You really didn't root for the "hero"; maybe he was supposed to be vanilla, but the character was pretty much inert.
3. They characters who played the director and his assistant were extremely obnoxious and totally unlikable.
4. If Clement or Rockwell weren't in the scene, I lost interest until one fo them came back on; that's how slow it moved without them.
5. Renting it is a waste of money. Borrow it from someone instead.
6. This will not be a cult classic. It will be known for what it could have been, not what it ended up as.
7. The 20% rating was divided between Clement & Rockwell, else it would have garnered 0-5%!!!
