Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Chris S — 15 Jan 2011
Admittedly I didn't expect a great deal from this film, believing it would in no way compare to the legendary Napoleon Dynamite...I was wrong. I'll even go as far as to say it blew Dynamite to pieces.
Awesome movie...Insane, ridiculous, borderline retarded. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, from the twisted to the WTF? There's no denying that this flick has the absurdly inappropriate Jared Hess stamp covering it from head to toe but unlike previous attempts, you cant help but absolutely adore Angarano's character, Ben Purvis.
Coolidge and Clement deliver priceless performances that constantly have you asking "Why am I watching this?". Rockwell was...dare I say...mesmerising, in a role that was courageously uncharacteristic for the actor, so wrong, but so right.
Not everyone will 'get' this movie, it's everything you would expect, dirty, strange, outrageously bizarre but oddly bland at the same time, even if it doesn't appeal to your sense of humour, give it a go, try to look past the often monotonous pace and flying rocket carrying deer and you'll discover an underrated gem of a movie, that is everything an indie-comedy should be.
Love it and prepared to defend it!
