Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Tyler W — 28 Mar 2010
This movie is ranked up there with some of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. I am not a Jared Hess fan [of Nacho Libre / Napoleon Dynamite "fame"] and I don't know why, but this movie delighted me, sort of.
I think I only burst out with a laugh once - while others were small chuckles, smiles and nods, with the occasional straight face. Jemaine Clement and Sam Rockwell really make the movie - with a good effort from Michael Angarano [who I have seen somewhere else .
.. I think] but the characters are what make a Hess film, I believe, and not the story. Well not the story in this one anyway. It was entertaining, and I can honestly say I haven't seen anything quite like this flick.
Sam Rockwell continues to be one of my favorite actors of all time - now even more after taking on a project like this. Every time he was on screen I was entranced, and whenever off screen, all I thought was 'You know what this scene could really use? More Sam Rockwell.
' Jared Hess has quite the "unique" vision like the trailer suggests, but it has been kind of the same vision and one or two characters have been the same in each "vision." But hey, whatever works.
This flick worked on some levels, and others - well it was just weird. Very weird.
