Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Tim M — 10 Apr 2010
Jared Hess' tries to capture that same oddball humor that made his previous indie hit NAPOLEON DYNAMITE so popular, but unfortunately crashes and burns with GENTLEMAN BRONCOS. Almost nothing rings true in the film and most of the gags fall flat.
As I sci-fi geek myself, I'm always down for movies that can make amusing jabs at the genre (take GALAXY QUEST or FANBOYS for cases in point), but Hess' script pushes the absurdity of the character's sci-fi stories so far that it's impossible to believe any audience would realistically find them interesting.
