Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Paul A — 16 Oct 2010
Jared Hess seems to be an enigma. He has a particular style that can be said to be that of an auteur, if he were French and paired with the ascent of Robert Altman. But it seems that in the modern era, people just don't know what to do with him. That being said, I think this is one of his better works. He has a lot more freedom when he has an actual star to drive his film, but this step in a different yet similar direction still left me staisfied. However, if it were not for the great Sam Rockwell, I fear this would've been pretty trite.
I think this movie is hilarious. If you've enjoyed other Hess movies, I think you'll like this one too, it's worth the rent. Enjoy!
