Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Jamie I — 15 Nov 2010
So Gentlemen Broncos begins with Zager & Evans' "In the Year 2525" and the cast names splashed over what look to be actual old cheesy sci-fi books. From there the movie doesn't do much.
Is it a comedy? A drama? A dramadey? Either way it's not very funny and somewhat of a downer. I'm also not sure what small town in the US consists entirely of people who dress like they're from the bad part of the 80s.
If we could see the actual Bronco story in its entirety, it would have been a much better movie than Gentlemen Broncos. Sam Rockwell who plays the rugged Bronco and the effeminate Brutus is nigh unrecognizable in both roles and as always, he is marvelous and should have been given the whole movie.
So if you can sit through Gentlemen Broncos for Rockwell, I say do it. If you can't (as the Bronco/Brutus sequences are quite short) then I say skip it.
