Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Derek T — 12 Mar 2011
Jared Hess' third film is quirkier and more off-beat than either Napoleon Dynamite or Nacho Libre, and that's not necessarily a good thing. This foray into the world of pulp sci-fi books and fan films has its moments, but often lingers too long on the fringes of believability to really work.
There are some very funny moments, particularly from Jemaine Clement and Sam Rockwell, but they are too obscured in Hess' weird world of dysfunctional people and bodily expulsions to make the film worth the effort.
Although I did laugh throughout the film, I think I would rather rewatch Napoleon or Nacho than Broncos to get my dose of awkwardn-Hess.
