Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Jed W — 21 Apr 2012
I don't understand why this got so many bad reviews. Admittedly, it does have all the trappings of a usual indie comedy (think Juno, Napoleon Dynamite, any Michael Cera movie). A geeky guy generally runs into bad luck, hangs around with other geeks and gets soundtracked by twee acoustic guitars, but it all ends up alright in the end.
I saw this coming a mile off and that's why it put me off. However, I found the whole thing utterly hilarious from start to finish with great turns from Jemaine Clement, Mike White and Hector Jiminez.
Yes, it's oddball comedy by numbers in many ways but it's certainly funnier than most of what is flung at you in an attempt to get you to watch something less mainstream.
