Review of Gentlemen Broncos (2009) by Matt W — 21 May 2012
This movie is so abstract and out there, that it is very off putting at first, and for the first half, it circles in story, and everything feels stupid instead of funny, and the quirkiness just gets on your nerves in the first half.
But what I found is that as soon as the story finally sets into it's place, then you start to enjoy it quite a lot, and I found myself becoming more and more invested within the story. But what I liked about the movie was this nostalgic feel of the science fiction scenes, and how it is literally dwelling into the minds of the characters.
Although the quirk seems over done, the movie is still enjoyable if you except it for what it is, and as Jared Hess starts to control what is necessary, and when it is funny, I found the movie very satisfying in the end.
I mean Jennifer Coolidge stood out in this movie for me, mostly because she was the character that I actually felt for, as I felt she was the only one who gave a genuinely normal perfoance- most of the time.
Although this has a lot of stale jokes, and awkward moments, in the negative way, I truly believe when you except it for what it is, you can enjoy it. and there is one action scene including deer space ships which I kind of loved, even though it was only a mnute long- the idea was brilliant.
That is the main point, there are great ideas, but they just aren't translated as well. I'm afraid it is not Napoleon Dynamite, but that isn't one of my favourite movies either- it's a ride, that is what I'm going to end with.
