Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by Daniel P — 18 Jun 2007
The message of this movie appears to be "Don't discriminate against Jews because they're trying really hard to be like us normal people." This conveniently leaves out minorities that don't look "normal" (I guess it was too early to push for an end to Jim Crow), as well as Jews who actually want to practice their Judaism, and are willing to look and be "abnormal" (no mention anywhere in the movie of actual religious practice).
Still, it's a step in the right direction, and Celeste Holm is great.
