Review of Genius (2016) by Carolyn R — 25 Sep 2016
Welcome to the biopic. Very well crafted, great costumes, great locations and palette of colors. Now the story isn't particularly thrilling since it's about the complicated relationship between Thomas Wolfe and his editor, Max Perkins.
Sure the film takes an interesting angle on the story but somehow I found the performance of Jude Law a little too over the top in intensity. boy he is going for it with sheer passion but the result feels a little wooden in my opinion and a little theatrical.
Colin firth is no better I so wanted to jump in the screen and take off his hat! He kept that dam hat on his head the whole film, which made me wonder if he was sleeping with it at night. This is a specific film that will appeal to an audience for sure, to me it was nice to watch it but that's about it.
I'll try to read his books though, so I guess if the film can promote the work of this author and make it available, then I guess it completed it's duty beyond all suspicion.
