Review of Gender Wars (2015) by Nick K — 27 Nov 2017
A comedy drama recounting the 1970s televised tennis game between ladies no. 1 Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-mens pro (in his late fifties) Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell).
The film brings to life the period that had discussions/arguments raging about sexual chauvinism not only in the professional tennis world but in other sports as well.
The film is a typical feel good story where the ending is pretty obvious where it is going.
Carell in particular adds some comedic value to his chauvinist character.
The film is by no means a classic but is still highly interesting. Not only for the episode I have described but King questioning her sexuality.
