Review of Gemini (2017) by Alan W — 08 Oct 2017
There's a movie star, her assistant, an agent, a screenwriter, a soon to be ex-husband, a lover and a superfan, so all types in the movie industry are represented here in this kooky but somewhat flat murder mystery set in a moodily shot Los Angeles.
Presented as a noir thriller, this is not a bad film nor is it shoddily made, but the story is too slight and unthreatening to engage. Lola Kirke feels like she has walked in from one of her other mumblecore indies while the rest of the cast seems underused.
While I confess I did not guess the ending, I was underwhelmed and bewildered when it ends. Not so much a whodunit but more: was that it?
