Review of Gate II (1990) by Clark P — 31 Jan 2008
Back in 1987 'The Gate' surprised everybody when it raced up the box office charts and made more than three times the amount of money it took to make. In 1989 the entire creative team behind the teen horror flick returned to lense a sequel (which was shelved in the U.
S. until 1992 due to distribution problems). Louis Tripp (the only cast member from the previous outing) returns as budding teen sorceror Terry who this time opens 'The Gate' on purpose believing he can harness the power of the demons to do some good.
A punk gang are along for the ride. And naturally things start to go awry. Fans of the first 'Gate' movie will not want to miss this one. It's less of a rollercoaster than the original. It's much more menacing in tone and instead cranks up the tension at a pace that allows more in terms of character development.
Tripp and Pamela Segall (as feisty Liz) deserve special acting nods and the special effects are simply as amazing as ever.
